The Nelson Ball Bubble suspension lamp was designed by George Nelson in 1952. The Nelson Ball Bubble lamp was a pioneer in being produced with a novel material and production method in the lighting industry. The lamp was created by applying a layer of soft plastic around a steel wire frame. The wire frame remains slightly visible after the plastic layer solidifies, allowing the lamp to emit a soft diffuse glow. This lamp is translucent and has a brushed nickel finish on its base that provides a luxurious contrast.

For more than three decades, Nelson created innovative furniture and lighting, including the Marshmallow sofa and many other works that are on display in museums, including New York's MoMA.
