The Mettsass table is one of Ettore Sottsass's first designs for BD, which has lost none of the personality with which Sottsass designed it in 1972. Ettore Sottsass was born in Insbruck in 1917, but is considered one of the greatest Italian designers of the late 20th century, he was the founder of the Memphis Milano collective of the early 80s.
The Mettsass table, like all Ettore Sottsass ' designs, tries to fulfill its main function well, in this case a dining table, but also loaded with functions that are not obviously utilitarian, related to memory, emotion and magic. The glass top of the table can be stained the same color as the base and additional weight can be added to the center support to improve stability if needed. The original finish was flocked. The piece was reissued in 2012.
Materials and finishes: The structure is made up of flat steel sheets painted in RAL 3001 red. The glass at the top is painted the same color as the structure.
