An iconic lamp from the Memphis Milano movement.
Ettore Sottsass, 1981. Tahiti table lamp.
The famous Tahiti table lamp, made of polychrome and enamelled metal, the pivoting "duck" head mounted on a laminated base with black and white confetti patterns. The groundbreaking aesthetics of this lamp represent a before and after in the design of the time. With a lot of color and a certain "tacky" touch, it is actually the most recognizable silhouette of all Ettore Sottsass' designs.
A piece that, according to its designer, "reconciled industrial production with art and poetry". The fact is that from basic geometric shapes and with color and composition as resources, he created this marvel of Italian design.
In the photo, the famous Spanish designer David Delfín, whose love for Memphis led him to tattoo the lamp on his arm. A cult object of collectors, it is part of the permanent collection of the most important museums in the world.
