Eames Plastic Armchair LAR - Vitra

The LAR (LAR = Lounge Height Armchair, Rod Base) is a lounge height armchair from Vitra. It was manufactured in 1950 by Charles & Ray Eames. It is part of the iconic Plastic Chair series, which became known as the first mass-produced series of plastic chairs in the history of furniture and is now one of the most iconic seats in the world.

The LAR lounge chair must have been one of Charles and Ray Eames' favorite designs as it appears in several images of the Eames house, being able to be seen over and over again both indoors and outdoors. This also shows how easy it can be transported, unlike most seats of the same type. Compact in size, the LAR Plastic Chair is also suitable for use in rooms with limited space or for use in groups of several for a larger living room. Countless combinations can be made both for a house and also for public facilities, such as offices, hotels or cafes.

LAR has a steel cable base, achieving maximum stability with a minimum of materials, it acquired a nice nickname as soon as it entered the market as a result of its unusual shape: "Cat's Cradle", which referred to the children's game of twine.
